Rental Development

VHCB funds the creation and preservation of permanently affordable rental housing throughout the State of Vermont.

Working with a network of private and non-profit housing developers, we continue to make strides toward ensuring that everyone in Vermont has a safe, healthy place to call home.

Our staff works closely with partner organizations to assess the quality of proposed projects before recommending them to the Board for funding approval.

Funding Process

Housing built with VHCB dollars must be perpetually affordable for lower-income Vermont residents and have a long-term stewardship plan to ensure that the property is maintained in good physical condition. In alignment with our dual-goal mission to create housing and conserve land, VHCB prioritizes infill projects and developments that reinforce historic settlement patterns or involve the rehabilitation of existing structures. Other factors that our Board carefully considers are project readiness, financial viability, plan for addressing any major health and safety issues, and the capacity of the housing development and management teams.
