Morgan Mapleworks Benefits from Business Planning Assistance

Cheryl and Joe Hyrckiewicz, the owners and operators of Morgan Mapleworks, bought their land in Morgan in 1990. Throughout the years, as they worked in administration and forestry, respectively, they built their home and acquired more land, eventually moving to their Morgan property full time and building a commercial-sized sugarhouse. After selling sap for many years, they installed their reverse osmosis unit and a vacuum pump to begin producing their own syrup.

As their operation grew, they began to seek assistance. On the advice of Senator Robert Starr, the Hyrckiewiczs’ enrolled in the Viability Program and were matched with Daniel Keeney of the Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE). With Daniel’s help, Joe and Cheryl have been able to write their business plan and improve their bookkeeping skills. Cheryl shared that “the Viability Program is very beneficial for people who don’t have all the answers. We would definitely recommend it. Without Daniel’s help, it’s likely we would have shut the doors and walked away.”
