Events and Education Specialist - SASH @ Winooski Housing Authority, Winooski

Promote greater independence among WHA populations through development and implementation of health-related events and group activities.  Create programs that make it possible to retain quality of life at higher care facilities through strengthening resident’s health, both physical and mental. This position is Full Time (1720 hours).

SASH Mission: “Coordinate and deliver person-centered, evidence-based care and support to people where they live, helping them improve or maintain their health and quality of life so they can live out their days in the location of their choosing.” (SASH is a nationally recognized, team-based program of care coordination shown to improve population health, save Medicare dollars and help people stay (or become) healthy so they can remain living at home.

The Events and Education Specialist will:

  • Identify needs of participants through interview and survey
  • Review health data of participants to inform programming planning
  • Plan and implement health-related events and activities
  • Provide social support to resident community
  • Train tenants in specific emergency-related safety planning

Conservation & Environmental Education

Nursery Operations Assistant - Intervale Center, Burlington

Nursery Operations Assistant

Intervale Center, Burlington

Directly support the Intervale Conservation Nursery’s work to protect and steward the natural environment as the foundation of our food system. You will help us to grow tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs for statewide restoration projects that will improve ecosystem health for Vermont’s vital watersheds. You’ll also engage hundreds of volunteers in this important service. This position is Half Time (915 hours) and takes place primarily outdoors.

The Intervale Center’s mission is to strengthen community food systems that sustain farms, land, and people. In 2001, the Intervale Center’s Conservation Nursery began growing trees and shrubs for conservation projects statewide. Since then, we have provided 500,000 stems to reforestation projects on Vermont’s rivers and streams, and we continue to scale up along with demand for our products and services.

The Nursery Operations Assistant will:

  • Collect seeds and plant cuttings
  • Engage in greenhouse tasks such as plant propagation
  • Conduct field maintenance including weeding, irrigation, transplanting, and harvesting of native trees
  • Lead and organize groups of volunteers
  • Conduct land stewardship projects at the Intervale Center

Stewardship & Environmental Educator - Middlebury Area Land Trust, Middlebury

Stewardship & Environmental Educator

Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT), Middlebury

Play a vital role in maintaining, improving, and expanding MALT’s 30-mile Trail system while also engaging community members in trail-based learning and ecological education! This position mixes trail work, invasive species removal, and volunteer coordination with community outreach and education. Help ensure trails are safe, accessible, and welcoming to all, while also fostering greater public participation in MALT’s conservation mission! This position is Half Time (915 hours) and takes place primarily outdoors.

The Middlebury area Land Trust (MALT) mission is to “connect with our community with the lands that we protect through conservation, recreation, and education. MALT has developed an ambitious Vision 2040 to make “Addison county a model of sustainable land stewardship, where healthy natural and human communities thrive.”

The Stewardship & Environmental Educator will:

  • Conduct field visits to monitor conservation easements and fee-owned lands in collaboration with stewardship team
  • Assist with habitat improvement projects such as planting native species, removing invasive plants, managing erosion, and enhancing wildlife habitat.
  • Develop and implement place-based, age-appropriate educational materials and curriculum. Tasks may include designing lesson plans, creating interpretive materials for trail-based learning
  • Engage with land stewards, volunteers, and youth participants to build relationships with MALT and community.

Conservation Technician - North Branch Nature Center, Montpelier

Conservation Technician

North Branch Nature Center (NBNC), Montpelier

Help build NBNC’s capacity to achieve our short- and long-term property management and ecological resilience goals through hands-on stewardship, ecological restoration, and community engagement. The Conservation Technician will combine a love of nature with a passion for outdoor service to maintain and enhance the NBNC landscape as a demonstration site for best practices in land management and environmental stewardship. Position is Half Time (915 hours) and takes place primarily outdoors.

NBNC’s mission is to connect people with the natural world. Our vision is a world where people learn, teach, and play together in nature, supporting healthy, resilient communities, and ecosystems.

The Conservation Technician will:

  • Pursue NBNC’s ecological resilience goals through invasives management and native plant restoration.
  • Lead volunteer and student groups in ecological restoration service projects.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan for and implement solutions for healthy coexistence with resident beaver populations.
  • Maintain existing trails and visitor experience installations (kiosks, displays, benches, etc.)
  • Maintain and care for NBNC’s fruit orchard and conservation nursery.
  • Assist with hosting summer nature programming at NBNC.

Northern Woods & Water Steward

NorthWoods Stewardship Center, Island Pond

NorthWoods Stewardship Center’s mission is connecting people and place through science, education and action. Support multiple departments at NorthWoods Stewardship Center through forest stewardship, sustainable recreation, wildlife habitat, water quality improvement, and environmental education. The primary focus of the position will be to support the Conservation Science Department’s Riparian Lands Program through seed collection, processing, and distribution efforts for riparian restoration. This position is Half Time (915 hours). NorthWoods can provide member housing at a reduced monthly rate.

NorthWoods Stewardship Center’s mission is connecting people and place through science, education and action.

The Northern Woods & Water Steward will:

  • Support the direct seeding project by maintaining vigilance and quality with species identification, location, and data collection ensuring accurate records of data and activities.
  • Count seeds accurately and use sensitive measuring equipment
  • Engage with members of the public, including school students, in environmental education and presenting on NorthWoods Stewardship Center and the Riparian Lands program.
  • Conduct post-program surveys to attendees to assess knowledge gained and change in behavior due to programming.

Field Research Specialist - VT Institute of Natural Science (VINS)

Field Research Specialist

Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS), Quechee

Join a small but growing department conducting field studies throughout Vermont. Participate in projects ranging from water quality monitoring in the Ottauquechee watershed to surveying nesting raptors across the state. You will have the opportunity to lead and expand our community science projects and coordinate our research volunteer network. This position offers a chance to spend your term outside serving the avian wildlife of our state. This position is Half Time (915 hours) and takes place primarily outdoors.

VINS’ mission is to motivate individuals and communities to care for the environment through education, research, and avian wildlife rehabilitation. Our programs and services engage and instill in people of all backgrounds a desire to care for the wildlife and diverse natural habitats they encounter in their daily lives.

The Field Research Specialist will:

  • Conduct monitoring for resighting of color banded Broad-winged Hawks, and surveys for potential nests.
  • Conduct water quality sampling and transport samples throughout the Ottauquechee watershed.
  • Lead and expand community science projects including nest watch, crayfish monitoring, and amphibian monitoring.
  • Conduct inventory and monitor invasive species on VINS properties.

Youth Programming Coordinator - Slate Valley Trails, Poultney

Youth Programming Coordinator

Slate Valley Trails, Poultney

Slate Valley Trails maintains more than 50 miles of free, public trails in Poultney, Castleton and Wells. The Youth Program Coordinator will expand Slate Valley Trails’ capacity to deliver high-quality outdoor recreation and trail-based programming for young people in the Slate Valley region. Design, lead, and coordinate biking and trail stewardship programs that connect youth to the outdoors, build skills and confidence, and foster a lifelong appreciation for healthy recreation and the natural environment. Position is Half Time (915 hours).

Slate Valley Trails’ (SVT) mission is to build, maintain and promote foot and bicycling trails in the Slate Valley region of southwestern Vermont. SVT strives to: build community among local individuals, organizations, and businesses; support the local economy by promoting the region as a place to visit with improved access to trails; encourage the positive health benefits of being active outdoors.

The Youth Programming Coordinator will:

  • Lead and facilitate youth recreation programs through the spring, summer, and fall including: Youth Mountain Bike Camp, Teen Trail Blazers Program, After-School Bike Clubs for elementary, middle, and high schoolers
  • Support local Vermont Youth Cycling League team
  • Support and implement program communications and outreach
  • Develop and share content for programming through print and online channels

Leadership Development & Service

Team Engagement & Service Coordinator - Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, Montpelier

Foster a strong connection between VHCB AmeriCorps members to support an impactful and meaningful service term for all! Check in with members and act as a resource to help members achieve their professional and personal goals. Build community connections by planning and leading service projects.

The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board is an independent, state-supported funding agency providing grants, loans and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations, municipalities and state agencies for the development of perpetually affordable housing and for the conservation of important agricultural land, recreational land, natural areas and historic properties in Vermont.

The Team Engagement & Service Coordinator will:

  • Develop and coordinate service projects for VHCB AmeriCorps cohort
  • Conduct one-on-one site visits with each VHCB AmeriCorps Member at least twice during service term
  • Coordinate program initiatives focused on member professional development;
  • Conduct outreach and engage community members and nonprofit organizations by representing program at events (i.e. tabling), developing outreach materials, and promoting program’s mission through other engagement efforts.
  • Support program staff in delivering training and events for the cohort
  • Complete an extensive Independent Service Project (ISP), a self-designed direct service community project in support of the mission of the program.

Position is Full Time (requires 1720 hours). Position begins January 13 and ends December 11, 2026.
